Interpersonal Communication
Interpersonal communication is how we communicate in class. It is face-to-face communication. Interpersonal communication is valuable because it allows us to communicate directly with one another. There is no lag between messages like there is with emails. You can actually see the person's body language and facial expressions unlike a phone call. You can understand a lot more of the message someone is conveying in interpersonal communication.

Nonverbal Cues
When we think of communication most of us think of talking, texting, emailing, etc, but we communicated messages non-verbally as well. Nonverbal Cues can be actions such as facial expressions, posture and orientation, and gestures as well as proxemics (distance from person) and a person's appearance. Examples of facial expression nonverbal cues include the emotions of being happy (smile), sad (frown, crying), confused (furrowed brow, hand on the head), angry (clenched fists), and boredom (head resting on hand). Students are always communicating throughout the class. You may not notice it, but as you sit there through a lecture yawning, placing your head on the palm of your hand, and break eye contact, you are displaying a nonverbal cue of boredom. Therefore, when communicating with other people it is important to be aware of your own body language and what you are conveying to your classmates and teachers.

Interpersonal Problem Solving
Math class is all about solving problems. As you work with your classmates, it is important to know the steps of interpersonal problem solving. Classmates will 1) address the problem, 2) brainstorm solutions, 3) evaluation the solutions, 4) pick a solution and implement it, and then later 5) reflect on the effectiveness of our solution. |
Teamwork
In math class we will be working in teams. All students are expected to participate and be effective team members. Teamwork requires effort from all members. Teams must understand their purpose and clearly define their goals. Each member will have a responsibility and a role in the group. Groups are more effective when they discuss the roles, function, and procedures. All members of the group shall value and respect other's perspectives, ideas, and experiences.
Community Resources
There are many resources out there to collaborate with your classmates. Below is a tool for all students to use.
Google Drive (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms) https://drive.google.com
Google drive is a platform for collaborating and putting together different documents. Students can create and share documents for other students to view and edit at the same time. This allows all students to work on the same document without being in the same place. It is also easier than creating a document in Word and then emailing it to a teammate. This way there is only one document that everyone can work on.
