Parents
Hello and welcome! I hope you find this page helpful and useful throughout the year. Typically the parent is the most influential person in their child's life. Therefore, for academic success it is important for the parents to communicate effectively with their child and their child's teachers.
Foundations of Communication
We communicate daily through words and actions. Communication is an exchange of words, signs, symbols, or body language. Open communication is important for parents and teachers. The more open communication, the more we will understand one another and be able to accomplish your child's needs.

Interpersonal Communication
I am hoping at some point I will get to have interpersonal communication with each and everyone of you. Interpersonal communication is face-to-face communication. This allows people to not only communicate verbally, but also non-verbally. Interpersonal communication is valuable because it allows us to communicate directly with one another. There is no lag between messages like there is with emails. You can actually see the person's body language and facial expressions unlike a phone call.
With busy schedules it can be rather difficult to spend some time with your child. Each week it is beneficial to set aside time to do a one-on-one activity with them. Take those moments to not only talk with them, but listen to them. This helps build a positive relationship with your child and teach them effective communication skills as well.

Nonverbal Cues
As mentioned above, people can communicate messages non-verbally. Nonverbal Cues can be actions such as facial expressions, posture and orientation, and gestures as well as proxemics (distance from person) and a person's appearance. Examples of facial expression nonverbal cues include the emotions of being happy (smile), sad (frown, crying), confused (furrowed brow, hand on the head), angry (clenched fists), and boredom (head resting on hand).
It is important for both teachers and parents to be aware of nonverbal cues for communicating with our children. It helps us to understand the child's feelings and what their needs are. If your child is expressing a nonverbal cue either in school or at home, it is helpful to be aware of it.

Interpersonal Problem Solving
Interpersonal problem solving is addressing the problem, brainstorming possible solutions, evaluating the possible solutions, selecting a solution, implementing the solution, and then evaluating how effective the solution was. Together we can go through these steps to meet your child's needs. If the solution was not successful, we can continue to brainstorm and implement possible solutions. If there are any issues or problems that you would like to address, please do not hesitate to contact me. My contact information is at the bottom of this page. Please keep me informed on any issues about your child. Knowing about both past and current problems is helpful.
Teamwork
Collaboration and open communication are key in any relationship. This includes the parent and teacher relationship. Together we can outline the goals of your child and where you would like to see them at the end of the year. The road to your child's success requires effort from the both of us and effective communication is a big part of that. Together Everyone Achieves More.
